None of that is a class. It is what happens when you live in a structured house with people a little further along, and someone who has done this pays attention to how you are doing.
Job-Friendly Sober Living: Work and School Support
Every resident works, attends school, or volunteers. That is not a suggestion; it is how the house runs, and most residents who arrive without a job find one in their first month or two.
Getting a Resume Together
Most people arriving here have a gap on their resume and dread the question. We help you put the document together and figure out how to talk about the last few years honestly, without either apologizing or hiding it. Plenty of employers respect someone who got sober and says so plainly.
Who Is Hiring on the Westside
Eric has been in the Los Angeles recovery community a long time and knows which local employers have hired people in recovery and treated them well. Restaurants, trades, retail, warehouses, and creative production all sit within reach of our homes. Sometimes the useful thing is a name and a phone number, and we have those.
School and Training
Some residents come back to a degree they abandoned or start a trade certification. We will talk through how a class schedule fits around meetings and house expectations, and what is realistic in the first six months versus later.
Staying Sober at Work
Work brings its own pressure: a stressful shift, a boss who does not know, a team happy hour on Friday. Talking those through with people who have handled the same situations is one of the more useful things about living in a house full of people in recovery.
Everyday Life Skills
Addiction wrecks the ordinary parts of running a life. Those come back through practice, not instruction, and a shared house is a good place to practice.
Money
Rent is due on a date. So is a phone bill, a car payment, and whatever you owe from before. Living here means handling that on a real schedule with people around who will ask how it is going. For most residents, making rent on time for six straight months is the first financial stability they have had in years.
Running a Household
Cooking, groceries, laundry, chores, keeping a room you can stand to be in. These sound small. They are the difference between an apartment that stays livable and one that falls apart in a month.
Keeping a Schedule
Work, meetings, appointments, and a curfew all have to coexist. Learning to hold that shape while you have structure around you is what makes it possible to hold it later without.
Building a Recovery Community in Los Angeles
The house ends. The network you build while you are here does not, and that is what carries people afterward.
A Home Group and a Sponsor
We expect a minimum of three 12-step meetings a week, and we push residents to settle into a home group rather than drift between meetings. Finding a sponsor and starting the work is the single strongest predictor we see of who does well after moving out.
Service
Making coffee, setting up chairs, greeting newcomers. Residents who take a service commitment tend to stay. There is something about being needed at 7 a.m. on a Tuesday that holds people in place.
A Sober Social Life
The Westside recovery community is large and active. Beach mornings, hikes, sober events, and a lot of coffee after meetings. Residents find their people here, and those friendships usually outlast the stay.
A Home Group and a Sponsor
Residents may get an Uber once a day to AA meetings, so building a home group may not depend on owning a car.
